Cairo – Mubasher: Sixth of October for Development and Investment (SODIC) revealed plans to use solar energy to power its headquarters situated at Polygon Business Park by 2020.
Solar-powered parking sheds are currently being installed by the real estate developer in Westown Hub, SODIC’s 8,000-square metre neighbourhood mall, to provide shade for visitors and cover 95% of the headquarters’ clean energy needs, according to a statement on Wednesday.
In addition, the net metering system will enable SODIC’s headquarters to consume produced energy as needed which will help lower the company’s carbon footprint.
“By focusing [SODIC’s] sustainability initiatives on aspects most relevant to [its] core operations and interweaving them into [its] projects, [the company is] able to achieve maximum impact; delivering better solutions for customers, driving operational efficiencies, and maximising positive impact on the environment,” SODIC’s managing director Magued Sherif said.
The initiative is implemented in partnership with the Industrial Modernisation Centre (IMC) and Egypt-PV in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to carry out grid-connected small-scale photovoltaic systems projects.
