Sadara begins butyl glycol ether production

Riyadh - Mubasher: Sadara Basic Services Company, which is indirectly owned 100% by Sadara Chemical Company (Sadara), has announced the production of commercial quantities of butyl glycol ether (BGE).

The BGE will be refined into several specialty chemicals that Sadara will be producing in Saudi Arabia for the first time, according to the company’s statement to the Saudi Stock Exchange (Tadawul).

The Sadara butyl glycol ethers plant, which is one of 26 manufacturing units of the Sadara complex located in Jubail Industrial City II, produces multiple grades of liquid derivatives including butoxy glycol ether, butoxy diglycol ether, butoxy tri glycol ether and butoxy poly glycol ether, the statement noted.

These derivatives have a wide range of commercial and industrial applications, including the production of industrial solvents, stain removers, plasticizers as well as agricultural crop protection applications, it added.

Sadara also revealed that the financial impact of the butyl glycol ethers plant becoming operational is expected to appear in the financial statements of the second quarter of 2017.
