Mubasher: The Public Transport Authority (PTA), in cooperation with the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH), has launched a programme to improve taxi services across Saudi Arabia and apply modern technology in them.
As part of the development, taxis, whose exterior will be changed into green, will be obliged to use a regulated fare system and e-payment facilities, in addition to modern tracking technologies and maps, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The new taxis will start operating at the airports, then gradually, to other regions across the Kingdom.
To upgrade the skills of taxi drivers alongside bus drivers and the employees of car rental offices, the PTA has also implemented a training programme in three languages – Arabic, English, and Urdu, to raise their competence in dealing with customers, as well as serving tourists and visitors, and maintaining vehicle’s cleanliness and operational efficiency.
The vice president of the PTA land transport sector, Fawaz Al Sahli, commented that over 10,000 taxi drivers have benefited from this programme.
