Saudi Arabia believes Canada to go ahead with arms deal

Mubasher: Saudi Arabia believes Canada may go ahead with a multibillion-dollar arms agreement with the kingdom, Reuters reported.

This step is expected despite remarks by the Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau that Ottawa was looking for a way out of the agreement, according to Reuters.

In December 2018, Trudeau said he was looking for a way out of the $13 billion worth a deal that covers armoured vehicles made by the Canadian unit of General Dynamics Corp.

“Relations between Ottawa and Riyadh have been tense since a diplomatic dispute over human rights last year. Ottawa says it has been consulting allies on what steps to take after Khashoggi was killed inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul in October,” Reuters said.
