Saudi Arabia considers causeway with Egypt

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia is mulling over establishing a causeway to link the kingdom with Egypt, according to regional media reports.

The bridge is set to link the Saudi city of Tabuk with Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula, passing through Sharm El-Sheikh, according to Construction Week Online.

Measuring between seven and nine kilometres, the road is expected to achieve $200 billion in trade revenues per annum.

The causeway, dubbed King Salman Bridge, will allow the passage of vehicles, passenger trains, and freight, Saudi transport minister Nabil Al-Amoudi said, according to reports by Middle East Monitor.

The project was announced for the first time by the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during his visit to Egypt in 2016.

The project’s total cost was not announced.
