Saudi Arabia eyes bridging digital gap in smaller cities – Minister

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is currently working on bridging the digital gap between cities and towns across the country’s rural areas.

The ministry is looking to raise internet coverage to between 97% and 98% across the kingdom, communications minister Abdullah Al-Swaha told Al Hayah newspaper on Sunday.

The communications ministry is currently coordinating with government bodies to implement a digital transformation system that will benefit Saudi citizens, the top official added.

At present, internet coverage across Saudi Arabia has reached 90%, the minister revealed, indicating that ministry was looking to bolster this figure to 97% by 2020.

Spreading broadband wireless services across smaller towns and rural areas in the kingdom is moving according to plan, Al-Swaha added,
