Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources has launched the second phase of the National Renewable Energy Program (NPRE), according to the ministry’s account on Twitter.
The second phase comprises 60 pre-qualified companies, of which 28 are Saudi firms, while 32 are international companies.
It consists of two categories with six projects:
- Category A that includes two photovoltaic projects namely Rafha and Madinah stations
- Category B that has four projects including Al-Faisaliah, Jeddah, Rabigh, and Al-Qurayat stations.
Requests for proposals (RFPs) for the first four projects will be launched in July, another two will be announced in August and the remaining six will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2019.
The step comes along with the programme’s strategy under Vision 2030 and the King Salman Renewable Energy Initiative that aims to maximise the potential of renewable energy in Saudi Arabia.
The programme sets out an organised and specific road map to diversify local energy sources, stimulate economic development and provide sustainable economic stability to the Kingdom in light of the goals set for Vision 2030.
The Saudi vision includes establishing the renewable energy industry and supporting the advancement of this promising sector while working to fulfil the Kingdom’s commitments to reducing carbon dioxide emissions.
