Saudi Arabia maintains ban on Boeing 737 MAX jets

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia is not planning to allow Boeing 737 MAX aircraft in the kingdom in the near future, the country’s transport minister said.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) issued a raft of regulations to maintain the safety of the airplanes, Nabeel Al-Amudi told reporters on Monday at the Global Aviation Summit held in Riyadh.

In March, several countries decided to suspend their 737 MAX 8 fleet after two fatal crashes involving the same model in less than six months.

In 2018, Saudi airports witnessed over 99 million passengers who flew on more than 771,000 flights, Al-Amudi added.

The kingdom plans to develop the aviation sector in an effort to reach the 25th ranking in the World Bank’s logistics performance index, he added.
