Saudi Arabia’s industrial production grows 12% in June

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s industrial production index went up 11.9% in June compared to the same month in 2020, according to official data.

The increase in the Kingdom’s industrial production was mainly attributed to a 19.3% rise in mining and quarrying activity, which accounted for 74.5% of the index weight. This was backed by high volumes of Saudi oil production, which grew to 8.9 million barrels per day (bpd) in June this year from 7.4 million bpd in the same month in 2020.

Manufacturing activities, however, were down 4.2% on an annual basis in June 2021, according to a report by the Saudi General Authority for Statistics (GaStat) on Tuesday.

Electricity and gas supply activity in Saudi Arabia shrank by 10.9% annually last June, having the lowest weight of 2.9% in the index.

On a monthly basis, the Kingdom’s industrial production rose by 3.6% in June compared to May 2021, supported by a monthly positive growth rate of 4.5% in the mining and quarrying activity.

Non-oil manufacturing activity was down 0.4% month-on-month (MoM) in June, while the electricity and gas supply increased by 13.9%.
