Saudi Arabia’s inflation grows 2.2% YoY in August – GASTAT

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s Consumer Price Index (CPI), known as inflation, increased 2.2% year-on-year in August, the General Authority for Statistics’ (GASTAT) report showed.

The rise in the kingdom’s inflation was attributed to a 10.5% growth in transport section, a 9.9% in tobacco, and 8.4% in restaurants and hotels section, the GASTAT added.

Prices in food and beverages section grew 6.6%, followed by healthcare and communication sections with 4%, and 1.4%, respectively.

Prices also levelled up in recreation and culture section with 1%, furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance section with 0.5%, education with 0.5%, and miscellaneous goods and services with 0.2%.

On the other hand, prices in clothing and footwear section tumbled 8.5%, while they decreased 1.3% in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels section.

On a monthly basis, Saudi Arabia's CPI inched down 0.2% to 107.3 points, from 107.5 points.

Month-on-month, prices in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels section edged down 0.7%, followed clothing and footwear section with 0.2%, restaurants and hotel section dropped 0.7%, and transport fell 0.1%.

Five sections remained month-on-month unchanged in August, namely, tobacco, furnishings, household equipment, and maintenance, health, communication, and education.
