Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia is studying the construction of 11 desalination plants under its privatisation programme with a total capacity of 4.3 million cubic metres a day, Al Eqtisadiah newspaper reported.
The ministry also looks at setting up nine wastewater treatment plants as part of the privatisation drive with a total capacity of 1.11 million cubic metres per day to serve a slew of regions across the kingdom.
The move comes along with the Saudi Vision 2030.
Abdulrahman Al-Zughaibi, the undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, said that the ministry has finalised requisite procedures to offer three plants in the Saudi cities of Jubail and Yanbu with a total capacity of 1.17 million cubic metres a day.
He added that the Saudi Council of Economic and Development Affairs approved the privatisation of the water distribution sector.
Moreover, consultants were hired to arrange the offering of the target management contracts and qualification of bidders.
