Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia is planning to offer tenders for consolidating consultancy services for the state-owned infrastructure projects in the coming few months, government sources said.
The tenders aim at upgrading efficiency and bringing new momentum for idle projects, they added.
The oil-rich kingdom considers hiring a consultancy at each ministry or state entity in a bid to supervise its projects that worth billions of dollars, sources added.
In the meantime, some ministries and entities, such as housing, health, power and municipalities rely on multiple consultants per project, Reuters reported.
Domestic and international consultants carry out project design and execution, while state-run entities and ministries monitor, sources noted.
The fresh scheme targets to outsource these services for 5 years during which the winning contender will give training to Saudis in an effort to enable the government entities to have the capability to manage such work themselves, according to the news agency.
The new plan would slash state spending, fight corruption and contribute to reviving a decline in the construction sector.
