Saudi Arabia to launch railway project tenders

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia reportedly issued tenders for transaction advisory services for two railway projects.

The first railway will connect Yanbu, Industrial City and King Abdullah Port on the Red Sea and the other will link the current Dammam-Riyadh line with the northern line, Arabian Business reported, citing media reports.

The kingdom also floated a tender to establish a new dry port and logistic zone and will use public-private partnerships (PPP) for both projects, Reuters reported, citing chairman of Public Transport Authority (PTA) Rumaih Al Rumaih as saying.

“We have done the feasibility and they are bankable, and now we are working on hiring the advisors who will prepare the PPP package,” Al Rumaih added.

There are PPP opportunities for the 340 kilometre Yanbu-Jeddah railway connection via King Abdullah Port, and the 40 km track in Riyadh which will be linked to the new dry port, local media reported.

It is noteworthy that passenger services on the 2,750 km Riyadh-Al Qurrayat track started operation in 2017.
