Riyadh – Mubasher: State-run Saudi Aramco, known formally as Saudi Arabian Oil Co., revealed that its joint venture (JV) with Malaysian Petronas, Pengerang Refining and Petrochemical (PrefChem), is expected to restart a crude distillation unit at its oil refinery in Malaysia in July, Reuters said.
PrefChem is part of Petronas’ $27 billion Pengerang Integrated Complex.
The Pengerang refining development comprises a 300,000 barrels per day (bpd) oil refinery and petrochemical complex with a production capacity of 7.7 million tonnes per year in the southern Malaysian state of Johor.
In April, PrefChem stopped the trial operations for safety checks on the back of fire occurred at the atmospheric residue desulfurisation (ARDS) unit.
Responsible contractors are still assessing the extent of damage at the fire-hit ARDS unit, Reuters reported.
Contractors said that repairs could take between three months and two years.
