Saudi Aramco, Petronas study expansion in Malaysia

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Aramco and Malaysian state-owned oil firm Petronas are studying projects to build more petrochemical plants, Reuters reported.

The new possible plants aim to make full use of raw materials from the firms' joint venture in Malaysia.

The projects include speciality chemicals and synthetic rubber, the news agency quoted officials as saying.

"We're looking at what else we can do at RAPID," Md Arif Mahmood, executive vice president and CEO of downstream operations at Petronas, said.

The cracker could produce around 600,000 tonnes of butadiene, according to Abdulaziz Al Judaimi, senior vice president of downstream at Saudi Aramco.
