Saudi Aramco starts using cutting-edge data diode to prevent cyber threats

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) has rolled out "data diode", the first locally-made information security technology, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) said on Monday.

The new technology protects networks against cyberattacks and is more effective than traditional protection technologies. The milestone reflects the oil giant’s vital role in maintaining a balanced energy supply to the world.

The technology was jointly developed by Saudi Aramco and Advanced Electronics Company (AEC). The two companies signed an agreement to develop and manufacture the data diode in February 2020 during the fifth edition of the In-Kingdom Total Value Add (IKTVA) Program for the supply sector.

The state-of-the-art device is a vital cybersecurity protection tool for industrial establishments. It protects valuable data and sensitive industrial systems and is characterised by its easy installation, configuration, and maintenance.

Locally-developed by Saudi minds, the new device represents a qualitative leap in the information security space in the kingdom and a major step in the project to localise advanced technologies that meet the needs of local and global markets.
