Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) forecast to commercially launch fifth-generation (5G) technology by 2020, deputy governor for technical and spectrum affairs Majed Al-Mazyed said on Wednesday.
Launching 5G will raise the speeds of the internet over the coming period, Al-mazyed added.
Temporary licences will be granted in the ranges (3.4 – 3.8) MHZ in the next period, as well as (3.8 – 4.2) MHZ, to implement the trial operation of 5G, official in CITC said.
CITC is discussing the possibility of specifying additional frequencies for 5G generation within bandwidth (3.8-4.2) GHZ in a bid to add more frequencies, general manager of Frequency Spectrum Mohammed Alotaibi stated.
The Saudi body has set (3.4 – 3.8) GHZ spectrum as an initial frequency for 5G, Alotaibi concluded.
