Saudi CPI rises 5.8% in October

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia's consumer price index (CPI) rose by 5.8% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in October 2020, slightly above the previous month’s rate of 5.7%.

The rise of the CPI was pressured by the increase in prices of food and beverages by 13% and transport by 7%, considering the effect of the increase in the value-added tax (VAT) from 5% to 15% in July,  official data showed on Sunday.

When compared to September 2020, the inflation rate was up by 0.1%, driven by a 1.5% rise in communication prices, as prices of telephone and telefax services grew by 1.9%.
