Riyadh – Mubasher: Electricity providers are no obliged to compensate consumers affected by electricity cuts, Saudi Gazette reported, citing the Electricity and Cogeneration Regulatory Authority.
The new regulations were approved by the authority’s governor Abdullah Al-Shihry, the newspaper added.
In the event of power outages, residential consumers must be compensated with SAR 75 for every 24 hours of electricity cut, while non-residential consumers must be compensated with SAR 150.
Should the power outage extend beyond 24 hours, the provider must pay an additional SAR 75 to consumers for every 12-hour delay.
“Electricity must be restored within five working days, failing which the service provider will be fined an additional SAR 20 for every five working days of delay,” the newspaper reported.
The new regulations also stipulated that new consumers must get their electricity connection within 40 working days. If this does not happen, that the power provider will be fined SAR 200 for each residential consumer and SAR 400 for each non-residential consumer.
