Saudi-Kuwaiti oil fields may resume output in H1-17

By: Ahmad Awad

Kuwait – Mubasher: The joint oil fields between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia are expected to resume producing oil in the first half of 2017, Kuwaiti oil minister Essam Al-Marzouq said in a press conference held on Thursday.

The oil production from the joint fields will lead to a decrease in production from other oil fields in order to preserve Kuwait’s share in OPEC, the oil minister noted.

Khafji oil field was shut down in October, 2014 due to environmental concerns, followed by the shutdown of Wafra oil field in May, 2015 due to maintenance works.

Kuwait saw the largest damages from closing these two oil fields which have production accounting for 8.3% of the overall oil production in Kuwait.
