Riyadh - Mubasher: The value of transactions through points of sales (POS) in Saudi Arabia jumped by 141.4% on a weekly basis during the week ended on 6 June 2020.
POS transactions value skyrocketed to SAR 7.85 billion in the aforementioned week from SAR 3.25 billion in the previous week, as shown by the data of the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA).
The number of transactions through POS advanced by 72.9% on a weekly basis, reaching 50,280 when compared to 29,080.
Food and beverage dominated the highest value in POS transactions with SAR 1.28 billion and 15,030 transactions.
Riyadh came in first place in terms of spending with SAR 2.3 billion through 14,250 transactions, followed by Jeddah with SAR 1.17 billion via 6,600 transactions.
Since the beginning of the year until 6 June, POS sales volume increased by 4.8% and reached SAR 125.49 billion from SAR 119.7 billion in the corresponding period in 2019.
As of 31 May, movement across Saudi Arabia, excluding the holy city of Mecca, was permitted starting from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m, as part of easing precautionary measures against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
