Saudi cement firms’ sales fall 6% in December

Riyadh - Mubasher: Saudi cement companies’ sales retreated by 6.3% year-on-year to 3.82 million tonnes in December 2018 from 4.08 million tonnes, according to Yamama Cement’s most recent report.

Total companies’ production fell 6% to 3.86 million tonnes in the final month of 2018, from 4.1 million tonnes in the year-ago period.

On the other hand, cement inventories surged 8.8% to 1.19 million tonnes in December from 1.09 million tonnes in the same period of 2017.

Southern Province Cement Company registered the highest sales of 617,000 tonnes in December, against 489,000 tonnes in the prior-year period, with a growth rate of 26.2%.

Saudi Cement Co. ranked second with a 2.5% year-on-year sales rise to 489,000 tonnes in December from 477,000.

Last month, Northern Region Cement posted the lowest sales of about 52,000 tonnes, compared to 107,000 tonnes in December 2017, with a remarkable decline of 51.4%.  

Saudi cement companies’ sales fell 9.2% to 3.45 million tonnes in November 2018, from 3.8 million tonnes in November 2017.
