Saudi current account surplus rises 133% in Q1 - GASTAT

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has achieved a 133.3% year-on-year increase in its current account surplus of balance of payments, registering SAR 41.5 billion during the first quarter of 2018, from SAR 17.78 billion, General Authority for Statistics’ (GASTAT) data revealed.

Quarter-on-quarter, the oil-rich kingdom saw a 41.3% growth in its current account of payment balance in Q1-18, from SAR 29.38 billion, GASTAT added.

The GCC nation's current account surplus of payment balance to the gross domestic product (GDP) rose 6% during Q1-18, compared to 2.8% in the same period a year ago.

Saudi GDP reached SAR 688.13 billion during the period between January and March, up from SAR 632.42 billion in the year-ago period.
