Saudi cuts mobile phone roaming rates

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) announced on Saturday that it started the first phase of cutting roaming services prices for mobile phone users travelling within the GCC countries.

The new price caps, approved by the GCC Ministerial Committee for Post, Telecommunications and Information Technology, were applied as of Friday, 1 April.

The maximum price is applicable for all telecom providers in GCC countries, as outgoing calls to any GCC state cost SAR 0.975 and outgoing calls to other countries cost SAR 2.4, while incoming calls and SMS prices are SAR 0.3 and SAR 4.875 respectively, according to a statement by the CITC.

The Saudi commission expected a significant impact in the growth of the data roaming volume after activating the GCC agreement.
