Saudi economy to get $19bn boost from 5G technology

Riyadh – Mubasher: The fifth generation (5G) technology is expected to support Saudi Arabia’s economy with more than $19 billion over the coming period, the vice minister of communications and information technology said.

This technology will also provide over 20,000 job opportunities in the telecommunications and information technology (IT) sector, Haytham AlOhali added on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum on the Middle East and North Africa held in Jordan.

5G technology is a major part of the kingdom’s plan to boost investment in the telecommunication sector and encourage digitalisation in line with Saudi Vision 2030, intended to diversify the kingdom’s economy and invest more heavily in infrastructure.
