Saudi economy to maintain growth - IMF

Riyadh - Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s economy is expected to maintain its growth trajectory, helped by the hike of global oil prices and the Kingdom’s increasing crude production, in addition to improvement in the non-oil sector, the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) director of the Middle East and Central Asia department said.

“What would have an impact is how oil prices will have moved going forward, and a certain number of other indicators like the pace of fiscal adjustment and the reforms that Saudi authorities will implement going forward,” Jihad Azour told Reuters.

The Washington-based fund does not change its forecasts for a recovery in Saudi Arabia’s economy after the death of Saudi journalist and Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi, the IMF official said.

The IMF previously projected Saudi gross domestic product (GDP) would grew 2.2% this year and 2.4% in 2019, after shrinking 0.9% in the year before.
