Saudi gov’t sets minimum wages for IT-related jobs after localisation decision

Riyadh – Mubasher: The recently-issued ministerial decision to localise the communications and information technology (IT) professions in the Saudi private sector will provide 9,000 job opportunities to Saudi male and female citizens.

About 60% of the jobs will be provided in large corporates, empowering national cadres to participate in the labour market through a stimulating work environment in a bid to boost the economy wheel and increase the sector’s contribution in the gross domestic product (GDP) to SAR 50 billion over five years, according to a recent statement.

The kingdom's Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development has set a minimum wage of SAR 7,000 for specialised jobs and SAR 5,000 for technical jobs.

Moreover, the decision is applicable to all business establishments with five or more workers in communications and IT jobs, application development, programming and analysis, and technical support.

On Monday, the human resource minister, Ahmed Alrajhi, issued a decision to nationalise jobs in the communications and IT field in private sector entities.

In January 2019, the ministry launched an initiative to support the Saudization of the communications sector.
