Saudi imports go up 2% to SAR 44bn in October – GASTAT

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi merchandise imports rose 2.3% or about SAR 1 billion in October 2017, compared to the year-ago period, the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) said on Wednesday.

The Kingdom’s imports increased to SAR 43.88 billion during October 2017, from SAR 42.88 billion in the same period a year earlier, the GASTAT added.

The Saudi body noted that the year-on-year rise was attributed to a growth in machinery appliances and electrical equipment imports with 10.5% to hit SAR 11.36 billion in October 2017, compared to SAR 10.28 billion in the same period the prior year.

Imports of transport equipment and parts thereof increased 1.3%, reaching SAR 7.39 billion during October 2017, versus SAR 7.3 billion in the corresponding period in the year earlier.

Chemical product imports jumped 8.6% year-on-year to SAR 4.86 billion in October, from SAR 4.47 billion.

Imports of arms, ammu parts, and acc. Thereof surged 49.6%, reaching SAR 1.82 billion during October 2017, compared to SAR 1.21 billion in the same month in year before.

Month-on-month, the value of Saudi imports increased by 39.2% or SAR 12.36 billion in October 2017.
