Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia's merchandise imports decreased by 6.4% year-on-year, or SAR 3.01 billion, in May, the General Authority for Statistics’ (GASTAT) data revealed.
Imports amounted to SAR 44.25 billion in May, compared to SAR 47.26 billion in the same month a year earlier, according to GASTAT’s figures.
Month-on-month, the kingdom’s merchandise imports rose 3.7%, or SAR 1.6 billion, last May.
Machinery, mechanical appliances, and electrical equipment topped Saudi merchandise imports at a value of SAR 9.82 billion, registering a 10% decline from SAR 10.91 billion in the same month a year ago.
Asian Non-Arab countries were the biggest importer to the oil-rich nation at a value of SAR 14.47 billion, followed by the European Union (EU) with SAR 10.99 billion, North America states with SAR 6.41 billion, and the GCC with SAR 5.15 billion.
China ranked first in exporting to the GCC country with SAR 8.22 billion, followed by the US with SAR 5.56 billion in May.
