Saudi merchandise imports rise 10% in September

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia’s merchandise imports increased by 9.5% year-on-year to SAR 38.77 billion ($10.33 billion) during September, compared to SAR 35.42 billion ($9.44 billion), the General Authority for Statistics’ (GASTAT) data revealed.

The rise in imports was attributed to a growth in six sections, while four sections dropped.

Imports of chemical industry products levelled up 10% to SAR 4.27 billion, while metals and its industries imports grew 21.2% to SAR 3.49 billion.

Metal products’ imports soared 123% to SAR 1.87 billion, while weapons and ammunition imports skyrocketed 224% to SAR 1.56 billion.

On the other hand, Saudi imports of electrical machinery and equipment inched down 0.3% to SAR 8.55 billion, while transportation equipment imports decreased 3% to SAR 5.65 billion by the end of September.
