Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi General Entertainment Authority (GEA) has uncovered a host of upcoming entertainment activities it was planning to launch across the kingdom.
These ambitious activities are a means for the authority and the kingdom as a whole to open up its entertainment sector and diversify the economy away from oil.
While it unveiled plans for concerts, race-driving, and even a wax museum, the GEA did not leave out those who preferred a more religious tone to their definition of entertainment.
In a number of tweets posted late Tuesday, GEA announced that it would launch a global competition in Ramadan for the best Holy Quran recitation with prizes reaching and perhaps exceeding SAR 8 million.
The authority will also launch a Hijra journey contest where participants can re-enact the Prophet Mohammed’s journey between Makkah and Madinah.
The Saudi recreational authority will organise an international competition for the best voice performing the Adhan with prizes estimated at SAR 3.750 million.
The GCC nation will also start soon Al-Farooq competition to teach youth swimming, shooting, and horses-back riding, with prizes of up to SAR 1 million.
Earlier on Wednesday, GEA unveiled a host of entertainment options that will be launched in the kingdom in the coming period.
