Saudi saaf green building system expands across 22 Arab countries

Riyadh – Sharikat Mubasher: The Saudi Green Building Forum (SGBF) reported a growing regional uptake of its saaf green building system, with 312 projects now registered across 22 Arab countries.

Together, the projects account for more than 785,000 square meters of built space, signalling wider adoption of the Saudi-developed framework beyond the Kingdom, as per a recent press release.

SGBF estimates that the registered developments are delivering an annual operational emissions reduction of nearly 62,800 tons of carbon dioxide equivalent compared to conventional buildings. These savings stem from design-led measures that reduce energy and water demand, improve climate responsiveness, and curb resource consumption before efficiency technologies are introduced.

Commenting on the milestone, Faisal Al-Fadl, SGBF Secretary-General, said the scale of adoption reflects a shift in how the region approaches sustainability in construction. He added that green buildings are increasingly viewed not only as an environmental consideration, but as a practical economic and development choice aligned with Saudi Vision 2030 and broader climate commitments.
