Saudi to allow export of cement surplus – Official

Riyadh – Mubasher: An approval has been secured for cement plants to export excess production that is not needed in local market, a local gazette cited an official as saying Tuesday.

Ahmed bin Abdo Zuqail, deputy chairman of the National Committee for Cement Companies told Ar-Riyadh newspaper that surplus amounts to 21 million tonnes of clinker, which is equivalent to a production for four months, and if turned into cement it would five months.

Several cement producers have begun to be approached by cement traders in Yemen for buying products, the official revealed.

Moreover, the mega projects announced during King Salman’s recent visit to Egypt may drive cement exporters to direct their products to Egypt, Zuqail added.
