Saudi trade surplus declines 25% in 2019

Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia has achieved a trade surplus worth SAR 439.43 billion in 2019, down by 25.5% when compared to SAR 589.91 billion a year earlier as shown in the annual report of the General Authority for Statistics (GaStat).

Meanwhile, Saudi merchandise trade tumbled by 5.9% or SAR 95.95 billion year-on-year (YoY) last year, recording SAR 1.522 trillion, compared with SAR 1.618 trillion. 

The trade exchange was impacted by an 11.2% annual plunge in merchandise exports during 2019 at SAR 980.69 billion from SAR 1.1 trillion.

Furthermore, merchandise imports surged by 5.3% to reach SAR 541.2 billion from SAR 513.9 billion.

The kingdom’s oil exports reached SAR 758.8 billion in 2019, compared to SAR 868.44 billion, posting a 12.6% annual decline, whilst the non-oil exports slipped by 5.8% and stood at SAR 221.8 billion from SAR 235.4 billion.
