Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabia's trade surplus leaped 137.6% year-on-year to SAR 58.41 billion ($15.58 billion) during August, compared to SAR 24.58 billion ($6.5 billion), General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT) reported.
The oil-rich Kingdom’s bilateral trade also rose 12.5% to SAR 125.61 billion in August, compared to SAR 111.66 billion in the corresponding month of 2017, the state-run statistics agency added.
From January to August, the GCC country’s trade surplus jumped 103.2%, or SAR 194.55 billion, to SAR 383.06 billion, up from SAR 188.51 billion in the same eight-month period a year earlier.
The Kingdom’s merchandise exports surged 35.1% year-on-year to SAR 715.29 billion during the eight-month period ended August, from SAR 529.38 billion, while its merchandise imports fell by 2.5% to SAR 332.24 billion, down from SAR 340.86 billion.
On a yearly basis, Saudi merchandise trade volume levelled up 20.3% to SAR 1.047 trillion in the January-August period of 2018, from SAR 870.24 billion.
