Saudi unemployment rate records 11.6% in Q2

Riyadh – Mubasher: The unemployment rate among Saudi Arabian citizens reached 11.6%, or as many as 658,000 people, in the second quarter of 2016, according to the kingdom’s General Authority for Statistics.

Men represent about 35.9% or 236,200, of the unemployed, while women account for 64.1%, or about 421,800, of the total number of jobless citizens.

Unemployment is highest among those in the age group of 25-29, representing 39.2% of the Saudi national workforce.

Male unemployment is highest for those between the ages of 20 and 24, reaching 40.7%.

Up to 41.7% of jobless Saudi women are between the ages 25 and 29.

The statistics also indicate that unemployment is highest among university graduates, or 53.7%, followed by high school graduates at 31%.

Unemployment rate for male university graduates has reached 24.2%, while it has hit 48.3% among high school graduates.

The percentage of jobless Saudi women peaked among university graduates, reaching 70.1%, followed by high school graduates at 21.3%.
