Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Arabian Airlines (Saudia) is currently discussing a potential order for Boeing 777X widebody jets from the US planemaker, informed sources said.
It was not clear immediately when the Saudi state-owned carrier and Boeing could reach a deal or the number of 777X jets that Saudia is interested in, Reuters reported on Monday.
In November 2017, Saudi Airlines’ director-general Saleh bin Nasser al-Jasser stated that his company might purchase wide-body jets in 2018.
“A potential Saudia order could alleviate production pressure for Boeing which is now unlikely to sell 80 jets that IranAir ordered before the US withdrew from a nuclear deal with Iran and said it would reimpose sanctions on Tehran,” the news agency added.
The Saudi company owns a fleet of 148 Airbus and Boeing aircraft, in addition to 777 twin-engined jets.
