Saudia targets global top spot next year

Riyadh - Mubasher: Saudi Arabian Airlines is targeting to be ranked as one of the top 5-star carriers in the world, the company’s director general Saleh Al-Jasser told CNN in a recent interview.

The company has recently is set to increase its fleet from 147 planes to date to 200 jetliners by 2020, which Al-Jasser believes is supported by the strong growth of the Saudi economy.

“We are building on the strength of the Saudi market, the Saudi economy is growing, there’s a lot of growth internally, plus there is an ambitious plan to grow the religious tourism to Saudi Arabia and we are targeting 30 million pilgrims by 2030,” Al-Jasser noted.

When asked about the aims of becoming a five-star airliner, the director said that Saudia is very optimistic about achieving this target. After starting two years ago to revamp the whole airline, it is changing the service, improving the product, enhancing all activities, and just launched a more ambitious initiative to be ranked one of the five-star airlines in the world by the end of 2019.

The Saudi company has also launched a low-cost carrier, under the name Flyadeal, back in September 2017.

“Today Flyadeal operates 44 flights a day to seven cities within Saudi Arabia. The next city will be launched on May 3rd to Tabuk, and will continue to expand gradually and the target is to expand the domestic traffic and regionally as well,” said Al-Jasser.
