Services drag MSM down in a week

Mubasher: The general index of Muscat Securities Market (MSM) closed the week ended 7 September at a 0.11% drop to 5047.08 points, losing 5.47 points.

The drop in the general index was influenced by the negative performance of the services sector, which dropped 0.72%, whereas the industrial and financial sectors rose 0.92% and 0.56%, respectively.

The financial sector acquired 55.51% of the total traded value at OMR 3.13 million, the industrial sector acquired OMR 1.45 million or 25.79% of the traded value, while the services sector only acquired OMR 1.05 million or 18.7%.

Oman Education’s share led losing stocks with 7.05%, followed by National Gas, and Omantel with 4.51% and 2.4%, respectively.

On the other hand, Oman Fisheries topped the gainers with 11.43%, while Gulf Investment and Galfar Engineering rose 6.49% and 4.11%, respectively.

During the week, trading volume dropped 74.06% to 35.95 million shares as compared to 138.59 million shares in the week before the Eid Al Adha holiday.

Traded value also decrease 77.79% to OMR 5.66 million versus OMR 25.5 million.

The total market capitalisation fell 0.08% to OMR 17.62 billion.
