Sharjah Airport’s passenger traffic up 2% in Q1

Dubai – Mubasher: Sharjah International Airport’s passenger traffic rose 2% to a total of 2.74 million passengers in the first quarter of 2017 compared to 2.69 million in the year-ago period.

Aircraft movements also increased 3% to reach 18,600 movements in Q1-17, up from 18,100 in Q1-16, according to statement published on the airport’s website.

The chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority attributed the rise in the number of passengers in the first quarter of this year to the growth achieved by the airport in January recording 969,630 passengers, with a 4.31% increase.

Ali Salim Al Midfa added that the number of airport users reached 827,370 passengers in February and 944,030 in March.

Sharjah Airport Authority expected that the airport would extend its achievements throughout this year amid its success to attract new airline companies, in addition to the continuation of the current firms in their expansion plans through reaching new destinations that will be an addition to the aviation sector in the emirate.
