Sony seeks expansion into UAE

Dubai – Mubasher: Sony Corporation is planning to expand into the UAE markets in 2018 by opening further stores, Albayan newspaper reported, citing managing director at Sony Middle East and Africa Taro Kimura.

Augmented reality and virtual reality are forecast to be a quantum leap in the UAE’s retail sector this year, Kimura said.

Globally, shipments of the augmented reality and the virtual reality products are expected to reach about 13.7 million units at the end of 2017, as it is likely to see an annual growth of 56.1% to reach 81.2 million by 2021, according to recent studies.

The Japanese company is on the right track to achieve the estimated sales, which account for 20% of the fiscal year 2017 in the region, he noted.

Artificial intelligence is likely to dominate the technology world in the MEA region over the coming period, as it is expected to achieve revenues of $114 million (AED 418.38 million) by 2021, he pointed out.

Kimura also added that Sony seeks to provide new suggestions that contribute to expanding the electronics field.
