South Energy, SP Group ink MoU to explore district cooling venture

Dubai – Mubasher: South Energy, the energy solution’s arm of Dubai South, on Sunday announced signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with SP Group on the back of its efforts to improve its district cooling capabilities.

The deal entails exploring key opportunities through joint venture initiatives set to boost district cooling services in the region, according to the company’s statement.

“We are confident that improving our capabilities through this partnership is another major step forward towards building Dubai South as an ideal community to work and live in,” Khalifa Al Zaffin, executive chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation and Dubai South, commented.

Currently, South Energy operates around six central cooling plants in Dubai South that serve the VIP Terminal, residential district, the Business Park and Sakany in Dubai’s flagship urban project.

“District cooling has been the preferred temperature control technology in the Middle East due to its highly energy-efficient model of providing cooling solutions to buildings, airports and other large-scale complexes,” the company stated.

Moreover, the deal explores key potential projects within Dubai South such as collaboration activities for the new district cooling plant located within the Emirates Flight Training Academy area of Dubai South’s Mohammed Bin Rashid Aerospace Hub.

“We are proud to be part of a global-scale project that has been designed to help achieve Dubai’s vision to truly become a world-class city. This is a major step towards more collaborations in the future, enabling us to meet the city’s needs in the run-up to the Dubai Expo 2020,” Wong Kim Yin, chief executive of SP Group, said.
