Riyadh – Mubasher: South Korea’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on Tuesday said it participated in a seminar where it discussed Saudi nuclear power projects with Saudi counterparts, news agency Yonhap reported.
Talks were held on the sidelines of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) general assembly in Austria on Monday, the news agency added.
"The government will actively push for nuclear energy cooperation with Saudi Arabia as part of its broader support for the peaceful use of nuclear power," the ministry said in a statement.
"South Korea expressed hope for increased cooperation in the nuclear energy field as well as other areas,” the ministry added, according to the South Korean news agency.
The South Korean delegation further discussed boosting local companies' opportunities in emerging markets’ infrastructure in the Middle East along with promoting the economic relationship with Saudi Arabia.
South Korea has been chosen as an important partner in three Saudi projects, which include the construction of 1.5 million houses, a railway project, and metro project.
“Son Byeong-seok, vice minister of land, infrastructure and transport, accompanied a business delegation made up of officials from both the public and private sectors to meet key infrastructure ministers in Saudi Arabia,” according to Yonhap.
The vice minister will hold high-level meetings with housing and transport ministers to promote bilateral cooperation for the Saudi Vision 2030, a major project to reduce the kingdom's reliance on oil.
