Spain’s Acciona, Saudi Swicorp to build $180m solar projects in Egypt

Cairo - Mubasher: Acciona, a Spanish leading company in providing sustainable solutions for infrastructure and renewable energy projects, will build three solar facilities at the Benban complex in the Upper Egypt governorate of Aswan in partnership with the Saudi company Swicorp.

The facilities will be evenly owned by Acciona and Swicorp; 50% each. The two companies will invest around $180 million in the projects, which are being developed under the second phase of Egypt’s feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme at the 1.8 GW Benban solar complex.

The Span-based renewable energy developer has commenced construction works on three large-scale photovoltaics (PV) power plants in Egypt in cooperation with the Saudi firm.

Egypt’s projects will be installed based on solar panels provided by Chinese manufacturer Astronergy and trackers from the Spanish provider STI Norland.
