Cairo – Mubasher: Spending on education and health in Egypt increased 57.1% and 87.3%, respectively, during the last five years, against lower energy subsidiary, Egypt's minister of finance, Amr El Garhy.
The minister added that these figures reflect the success of the country to rearrange its general spending priorities to insure the best use of resources.
Health provisions reached EGP 53.3 billion in 2016-2017 budget, compared to EGP 49.3 billion in 2015-2016 budget.
Education provisions reached EGP 104 billion in 2016-2017 budget, compared to EGP 99.3 billion in 2015-2016 budget, according to the ministry's report.
Social programmes' provisions also increased to EGP 417 billion, which represents 36% of general spending of the current fiscal year.
