Suez Canal returns hit $15.8bn in 3 yrs

Cairo – Mubasher: Egypt's Suez Canal has logged $15.8 billion (EGP 219 billion) in returns in the past three years, head of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) Mohab Mamish said.

He added during the third anniversary of inaugurating the New Suez Canal that nearly 51,200 ships have crossed the canal during the three-year period carrying 3.01 billion tonnes of cargo, according to a live broadcast on national television.

It is worth noting that the Suez Canal's revenues rose by 4.9% month-on-month, or by $23.8 million, in May 2018.

Revenues grew for the third consecutive month to $503.1 million, compared to $479.3 million in April, according to official data.

Mamish previously said that Suez Canal revenues went up by 12.9% year-on-year to $1.351 billion in the first quarter of 2018, versus $1.196 billion in Q1-17.
