Suez Canal revenues drop 4% in 12M

Cairo – Mubasher: The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) announced a 4% drop in Suez Canal receipts, or $200 million, to $4.9 billion, during fiscal year 2016/2017, as compared to $5.1 billion in the year before.

This came on the back of the fall in the value of the special drawing rights (SDR) versus the US dollar by an average of 1.9%, notwithstanding the higher net tonnage of transiting vessels by 0.8%, according to a CBE statement on Tuesday.

The official statement had shown a 4.66% month-on-month increase in the revenues of Suez Canal in July 2017.
