Cairo- Mubasher: The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) reported that its revenues rose to $2.93 billion in the period between January 2017 and July 2017 from $2.91 billion in the same period last year, according to a statement on Sunday.
The authority stated that 2017 witnessed the recovery of world trade passing through the Suez Canal, as net revenues went up 3% or $62.2 million to $2.167 billion in the period between March 2017 and July 2017 from $2.105 billion in the corresponding period of 2016.
The number of ships passing through the Suez Canal increased 2.1% or 204 ships to 9,949 ships in the first seven months of 2017, versus 9,745 ships in the corresponding period of the year before.
Net register tonnage (NRT) rose 4.3% or 24 million tonnes to 585.6 tonnes in the first seven months of 2017 from 561.5 million tonnes in the same period in 2016.
The SCA was able to attract 6,080 ships to pass through the Suez Canal for the first time and to achieve revenues of $1.3 billion in the period between July 2014 and July 2017 due to the flexible marketing policies it follows, the statement added.
The Suez Canal had previously posted a 2.8% drop in revenues on a monthly basis for June 2017.
The targeted revenues from the SCA total EGP 66.1 billion ($3.6 billion), according to statement of the general budget for fiscal year 2017/2018.
