Cairo – Mubasher: Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has signed a deal with Svitzer A/S, a subsidiary of Denmark-based Maersk, to get two new locomotives with a pulling force of 70 tonnes.
SCA will get the new locomotives within four months, the CEO of Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), an Egyptian unit of the Danish company, said.
The deal has been signed by the authority and Svitzer last Thursday, Lars Chirstensen told reporters.
Chirstensen noted that Eastern Port Said has been attracting investments and expansions following the major developments in the area’s ports.
Maersk seeks further investments in the region and is ready to collaborate with the Egyptian government to serve the national economy, he added.
The two locomotives are designed with the cutting-edge technology, he highlighted, adding that this step comes under the SCA’s plan to upgrade and develop marine services in Egypt.
