Sukari gold production grows 2% YoY in 2019

Cairo – Mubasher: Gold mining company Centamin has reported a 2% year-on-year increase in gold production from its Egypt flagship Sukari mine in 2019.

Production volume went up to 480,528 ounces last year, compared to 472,418 in the year-ago period.

“Centamin has undertaken a number of initiatives in 2019 to improve the consistency at, and increase cash flow from, the Sukari mine, which have contributed to a strong fourth quarter performance,” Centamin’s CEO Ross Jerrard commented.

In the fourth quarter of 2019, Centamin’s gold production rose to 148,387 ounces, from 137,600 ounces a year earlier.

Quarter-on-quarter, production surged 51% in Q4-19, from 98,045 in the previous quarter.

“We continue to assess opportunities for value-accretive diversification in conjunction with the investment in organic growth projects that support and increase the long-term value of the group,” Jerrard said.
